Client Brief

Provide a light and airy contemporary office in the garden, complete with lean-to shed and shingle footpath. The client desires a zero maintenance room in an anthracite grey colour palette. This garden building wanted to be enjoyed by the family all year round.

The Solution: An Insulated Garden Room

We have crafted this elegant insulated garden room to harmonise with the exquisite garden surroundings.

We laid concrete for the foundation to support the main room and the shed. We also discreetly positioned the shed to avoid being visible from the house's front elevation, following the client's preferences.

To ensure abundant natural light, we maximized glazing on both the front elevation and the sides. The space is also equipped with essential amenities for office use, featuring a CAT6 cable, power outlets and a compact air-conditioning unit.

The exterior cladding showcases a combination of concrete fibreboard and steel, fulfilling the client's request for zero maintenance.

How do we Insulate your Garden Room?

As garden rooms have advanced over the years, so has the durability and specification of the insulation used.

When designing an insulated garden room, there are many options from which to choose. For instance, an apex roof creates a traditional look while creating headspace or a vaulted ceiling inside the garden room. It also allows for a more spacious feeling inside the room.

It is a popular choice to clad insulated garden rooms in cedar. Besides giving your insulated garden room a rustic look, it has a lovely red hue to the wood. This adds style and natural colour to your garden, perfectly contrasting with any green grass in your garden.

Cedar has the natural durability to withstand harsh weather conditions and any rot caused by dampness. It has a lengthy lifespan of approximately 25+ years and does not need a lot of maintenance. The Cedar boards interlock with each other, creating a contemporary finish.

While cladding is a popular option for insulated garden rooms, you can also choose to have shiplap as the exterior finish for a garden room. Shiplap offers a smooth finish that can be painted any colour you desire.

It is made from pressure-treated timber, which will interlock or overlap each board to produce a weather-tight seal against wet weather. While your garden room is insulated, you need to consider the sustainability of your energy consumption. It is preferred to install double glazing, and even bi-fold doors can be catered for.

Double or bi-fold doors give you a lovely spacious feeling as your garden room opens onto the garden in summer, while in winter, you can enjoy the amount of natural light they allow. Find out more on garden room doors.

When planning your garden room, we ensure you know when to expect the delivery and installation. We advise planning this sort of project in the dryer, warmer months to ensure your garden room is set up in the shortest time frame possible.
